A news story changed the direction of my life. It led me from reporting on a tragedy, to
helping create a law, to becoming a mother, and eventually, an author. I never could have
planned any of it. But looking back, every chapter seems connected.

Every state has a Safe Haven Law that provides a safe and legal option for parents in
crisis to surrender an unharmed newborn. Because Safe Haven laws vary from state to
state, including where and when a baby may be surrendered, it is important to know the
law in your state.
