ABOUT
Suzanne Hobbs:
A Mission to Save Lives
For Suzanne Hobbs, one heartbreaking news story changed the course of her life.
As a television news reporter and anchor in Idaho, Suzanne covered countless stories during her nearly 14-year career. But in October 2000, she was assigned to a tragedy she would never forget—a newborn baby had been abandoned in a dumpster in Idaho Falls.
Standing at the scene, Suzanne knew there had to be a better option for mothers facing an unimaginable crisis.Determined to make a difference, she began advocating for Idaho to adopt a Baby Safe Haven Law. At the time, many states already had laws allowing parents to safely surrender newborns at designated locations such as hospitals, fire stations, and police stations without fear of prosecution. Idaho did not.
Just months later, Idaho’s Safe Haven Law was signed into law.
Today, Baby Safe Haven Laws exist in all 50 states. While the details vary by state, these laws provide a safe, legal, and confidential option for parents who are unable to care for a newborn. Most states allow surrender within a designated period after birth, and participating locations are identified by Safe Haven signage.

Most states allow surrender within a designated period after birth, and participating locations are identified by Safe Haven signage.

But Suzanne’s journey was only beginning.
In 2003, after years of infertility and a lengthy adoption process, Suzanne received a life-changing phone call. A newborn baby girl needed a family. That baby had been safely surrendered under the very law Suzanne had helped bring to Idaho.
That little girl became her daughter.
Suzanne’s extraordinary story has been featured in magazines, books, television programs, radio interviews, and on The Oprah Winfrey Show, where she shared her message with millions of viewers.
Today, Suzanne continues her mission to educate the public about Baby Safe Haven Laws and to ensure that every parent knows there is a safe alternative. Her message is simple:
No name. No shame. No blame. Just a safe place for a baby.
Through speaking engagements, media appearances, and advocacy efforts, Suzanne works to raise awareness, save lives, and help create a future where no newborn is ever abandoned in an unsafe place again.

Suzanne wrote The Hungry Snake book after making up the story to her daughter, Lilly Love, one night at bedtime. It became a favorite story Lilly asked to be told over and over. One day, she decided to take the story and make it into a book. It became an Amazon Bestseller back in 2016.
